GeoCoding Addresses
Answer (Unmark)

Hello all, I am trying to use the Nominatim service to geocode addresses. Many of the addresses that I have tried have either yielded no results, or have just found the coordinates for the street, ignoring the address. Does anyone have any suggestions? All I am interested in is converting an address to coordinates, not necessarily a POI.

Here are some of my sample inputs:
http://nominatim.openstreetmap.org/search?q=4005 Southway Street SW Canton, OH&format=xml&polygon=1&addressdetails=1
http://nominatim.openstreetmap.org/search?q=1363 W Old Lincoln Way Wooster, OH&format=xml&polygon=1&addressdetails=1

Thanks,
Brennan

first of all you are using openstreetmaps api, not the mapquest api. emoticon
open data does not always provide address level data, so the fallback is street level data.

What Chris said is correct. Nominatim can only be as good as the OSM data and many of the US roads can still be improved quite a bit.

Now having said that, please feel free to help OSM by editing and updating the info as needed emoticon
