OpenData

I just noticed that a lot have changed here. I used to use the Free & Open plan, mostly because I need open data - data I can cache and store.

I see that my plan hasn't been converted, but it still works exactly like it used to. I currently have more calls per month than the free plan offers, but I can handle that by turning of geocoding, as I only need the routing.

The Open part, where I can store the data in my own database is what's important. Am I still allowed to do that after this change? Or do I have to look around for a new routing service?

It looks like your key
It looks like your key slipped under the radar.   Stroring data is definitely against 3.a.vi in the Terms & Conditions: Customer shall not store or cache any MapQuest Data...

That was okay with the Open

That was okay with the Open API, because the data was open in the first place... So that is not okay anymore?

That's correct. The terms
That's correct. The terms have changed with the recent updates.

I never got any notifications

I never got any notifications about that, would have expected that. But okay, guess I have to find another provider now then.

Thanks for the service as long as it lasted :)

But I still use the Open

But I still use the Open Directions, meaning I get data from OSM. Isn't that data still open?

To make it 100% clear: I use open data through the MapQuest OpenApi, may or may I not cache that data?

I don't get this. The OSM

I don't get this. The OSM License states:

You are free to copy, distribute, transmit and adapt our data, as long as you credit OpenStreetMap and its contributors. If you alter or build upon our data, you may distribute the result only under the same licence.

Doesn't that mean that the data I get from the Open Directions API are open too?

MQBrianCoakley
The data is open and free,
The data is open and free, but the processing and service of the data through the directions api is available through the plans detailed in the Pricing & Plans link above.

I understand that there is a

I understand that there is a limit on the number of requests now. But my question is still: may I cache the data (specifically: the route points, not turn by turn directions)?

As far as I can read from the OSM license, I should be allowed to, shouldn't I?

OK, I'm still getting details, but it seems that saving of results from open.mapquestapi.com IS allowed. My bad misinterpretation of the T&Cs. Sorry about that.

MQBrian, it seems? Did you find a source of information? Would be glad to read it!
